Bathroom Extractor Fans with Light

Shower & Bathroom Extractor Fans with LED Light Kits

If you prefer a lighting unit in your bathroom, shower room or wet room that is integrated into the extractor fan or grille, then there are some great options available.

The units are ceiling mounted and come in two main types:

  1. Fan unit located at the air intake point (ceiling)
  2. Fan unit located in the loft space or void

The Xpelair Illumi and Vent Axia Luminair are examples of bathroom extractor fans where the fan impellor is actually located within the visible fan unit on your ceiling. This type of fan is attached to a length of ducting which continues to the exhaust point, usually via your loft space.

The Xpelair Illumi extractor fan was developed as part of their Simply Silent range to provide a high extract performance with effective noise suppression.

The Vent Axia Luminair extractor fan range has been around much longer than the Illumi, but works on a similar principle and offers multiple control options including humidistat. The fans are IPX7, making them a popular choice for shower enclosures.

Inline Bathroom Extractor Fan Light Kits

The majority of extractor fan light kits, however, consist of an inline fan for mounting in your loft or another void along with a ducting kit and separate lighting unit.

This is the most common method due to the higher effectiveness of moving air over longer distances with inline (specifically mixed flow) extractor fans.

In this setup, the light unit, which also functions as the extraction grille, is mounted into the bathroom, shower or wet room ceiling. Ducting is then connected between the back of this lighting unit and the intake side of the inline fan unit. The extract side of the inline fan unit is then connected to the outside grille where the air is exhausted.

Mixed-flow inline extractor fans (sometimes referred to as 'Turbo' by the manufacturers) are usually preferred for this role as they move more air over a longer distance than an inline axial fan would.

Popular examples of this kind of inline extractor fan lighting kit are the Blauberg Kit Turbo LED, Monsoon Turbo LED Kit, Airflow Aventa LED Kit and the Manrose Showerlite Kits.

It's also possible to buy your own choice of inline fan and pair it with a stand-alone LED kit such as the Silavent Spotlight if you wish. We offer this popular kit alongside the very powerful Vortice Lineo Inline Mixed Flow Fans.

The Benefits of Installing a Bathroom Light Extractor Fan

With a bathroom light extractor fan, you can say goodbye to those unpleasant odours and excess moisture in your bathrooms. Learn more about how this simple device can help improve the air quality in your home and keep mould at bay.

Eliminate Moisture and Prevent Mold Growth

Installing a bathroom light extractor fan is one of the best ways to make sure excess moisture and humidity are eliminated from your bathrooms. This simple device helps reduce the amount of water vapour in the air, preventing it from condensing on surfaces and leading to mould growth. You can also use it to draw odours out of your bathroom so that it always smells clean and fresh!

Reduce Unpleasant Odours in Bathrooms

A bathroom light extractor fan can help eliminate unpleasant odours from your bathrooms. This is especially beneficial for families where multiple people are using the same bathroom. The exhaust fan helps to draw out bad smells caused by steam, sweat and more, leaving behind fresh air instead. Additionally, you can use special filters to help purify the air even further.

Curb Potential Damage to Ceilings

By reducing moisture content in the air, a bathroom light extractor fan can prevent mould growth. Without this fan, mould spores would quickly spread across walls, ceilings and paint. Plus, you won’t have to worry about nasty black stains caused by excess condensation if you choose to install a bath exhaust fan! Not only are these nasty wet spots unsightly, but they can also cause more serious damage to your home.

Improve Air Quality and Ventilation

Installing a bathroom light extractor fan can also improve your home's air quality dramatically. Without this fan, stale air and unpleasant odours can easily accumulate in the bathroom and become unbearable over time. But with a proper ventilation system, these smells will be expelled outside quickly and efficiently. Additionally, you’ll be able to reduce indoor air pollution which can lead to various respiratory conditions when left untreated.

Cut Down Maintenance and Repairs

Installing a bathroom light extractor fan can also save on maintenance costs in the long run. Moisture buildup can cause mould and mildew to accumulate on surfaces, resulting in serious repair costs down the line. With a bathroom light extractor fan, you’ll be able to reduce or eliminate this problem, thus saving yourself money and time associated with repairs. The elimination of humidity will also help protect your fixtures and furnishings from moisture damage.
